It’s that time again for your favorite game… Wild Rondo Trade Speculation!

Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher and Howard Beck throw out some possible trade scenarios involving Rajon Rondo. It’s a lot of the same old, same old (Sacramento, Houston, Lakers) with Utah and New Orleans emerging as new locations.

New Orleans is intriguing because… just imagine Rondo feeding Anthony Davis on the break. Beck speculates the Pelicans would offer Jrue Holiday and a 1st round pick for Rondo.

We hear, yet again, that teams want Rondo because of his ability to lead an offense and that he can attract other stars.

Here’s what boggles my mind… why the Celtics wouldn’t keep him for those very reasons.

Honestly I think this is the best deal I’ve seen for Rondo in a long time (maybe ever). I like Jrue, and another 1st is real nice.

  Jrue Holiday is a quality young point guard with good size. He’s under contract at a decent price for a few more years.
  
  Honestly, if I were Ainge and I believed there was a good chance Rondo would leave in free agency next summer, I’d trade Rondo straight up for Holiday.

Maybe because he can’t realky shoot, can’t shoot free throws, can’t close and because the other teams are too stupid to know that he can’t or won’t really play defense.

The Celtics might not keep Rondo if they think he’s bound to leave in free agency anyway.

Another reason they might trade him is that they believe Rondo can only be anywhere near his best when the talent level around him is very good, and they don’t expect to be able to put together that kind of talent while Rondo is still in his prime.

I see trades in the VERY NEAR future for sure, but not Rondo. And not for Holiday and a 1st for sure… Our defensive woes won’t be fixed by trading Rondo, nor will our offense get any better as a result of it. Most likely the latter would be much worse. Let’s be honest folks, a solid offense means half the battle is won. We need defensive pressure and size in the frontcourt. Any trade that doesn’t involve that (or potential for that pending more trades) is a step sideways or backwards….

  Sean, I admire your love for Rondo BUT he will NOT be on the C’s team next season. He may not be traded in the near future, but do not be delusional – Danny does not want him, and he will NEVER give RR a max contract deal. And he won’t just let Rondo walk away. Rondo our best trade chip to re-build for the ’17-’18 NBA season.
