Recap: Jeff Green enters cheat code, becomes unstoppable from 3 in win

Literally every cent I make comes from the words I write on a daily basis, but I can find none to describe the shooting stratosphere in which Jeff Green found himself tonight against the Wizards.

Jeff Green… yes, that Jeff Green, took 16 shots from beyond the arc.  Sixteen.  He made half of them.  He made them from  all over the floor, with people in his face, off-balance… whatever.

The Celtics needed Jeff Green to become some amalgam of Reggie Miller and Larry Bird because they blew yet another lead, this time giving all of a 19 point lead away in the third quarter to play a mostly back-and-forth 4th quarter.  Green’s heave at the end of regulation didn’t fall, so the Celtics had to finish this one off in OT.

In the final frame, Jared Sullinger and Phil Pressey helped Green finish off the Wizards, who were hoping to climb above .500 for the first time in John Wall’s career.

Ultimately, they couldn’t, despite Wall’s triple double.  The Celtics losing streak is over thanks to a 113-111 win.

The Green

Jeff Green could barely miss tonight.  He added 9 rebounds and 3 steals to go along with 39 points on 54% shooting.  I will say this about Green’s night… He made the shots he took and it was amazing… but it’s not how I want him to play.  I’d love to see more slashing and attacking, but I guess I should just shut up and enjoy an amazing shooting night.

Phil Pressey… Where the hell did he pull a 4-5 night from 3?  He finished with 17 points in the start to go along with 4 assists.   He has impressed me.  I’m a little surprised at what he’s been able to do.

Jarred Sullinger is simply not afraid of the moment. He matched Green’s 9 4th quarter points, coming up with huge play after huge play.

The Gross

The third quarter was an abomination, regardless of how predictable it might have been.  Washington doubled the C’s up 30-15.  Boston shot 27% and turned the ball over 5 times.  It was just atrocious to watch.

Washington is a decent team, but they do “bad team” things.  The Wall play where he stole the ball, drove, got bottled up, and tossed it back to… no one, is a perfect indicator.

B:  3 Wizards never crossed half court.  That’s unforgivable.  It’s one thing to lose when a team beats you, it’s another to lose when you get lazy and stupid.
