Classic Rondo. While the rest of the world is lavishing praise on Ray Allen following his official retirement, our cranky former point guard swoops in with a not-so-subtle diss. Lest we forget, these two disliked one another.

Ray was a great player who had a great run in Celtics green, but I’ll forever have a sour taste in my mouth when thinking about his departure from Boston.

And no, his number should not be retired and raised into the rafters.

  Loyalty works both ways, and Ainge had tried to trade Ray for two years prior to him leaving. I don’t blame him for leaving. He wanted to be somewhere he was actually wanted instead of stuck with.

    This is the point that people haven’t made since the year Ray left. This had been happening for YEARS. He was traded for OJ Mayo, and the deal fell through at the last possible moment. He didn’t want to get shit on anymore.

    I think loyalty was working both ways. I think in any situation, Danny would have given Ray the best possible situation whether he wanted to trade him or keep him. For all we know the trade rumors were conjecture or at least a way for Danny to test the waters and possibly lure some future pieces. Hell, even Jeff Green went to the Clips, a contending team, right after being with us and he wasn’t worth a sack of potatoes! If we can agree that loyalty can be measured by value, Ainge demonstrated that by giving Ray an extension worth taking but ultimately Ray wanted to get a ring. Golem ass mofo! You’ll never see your number in the garden again! Good riddance I say

Letter to 37 year old Ray,

You will have been with the greatest franchise in history for 5 seasons at this point. Cheered by the best fans in the world. They got your back day in & day out. They forgive you for going 3-14 in a game 7 of the 2010 championship and for disappearing at times in the series. Times will get tough in 2012 losing to the biggest rival and LeBron. You’ll have a GM trying to make up for his past indiscretions with higher pay and a no trade clause to stay with the best franchise ever. A brotherhood. Will you stay and finish your legacy and be retired in the most defined rafters ever? NO, you’ll turn your back on the city that has loved you and went to war with you to join the most hated rival in recent history and be LeBrons bend over buddy. You’ll even make one of the biggest shots of your career for him.

  This is well done, my man. I can’t argue with any of it.
  
  Having read Ray’s letter, he made it clear that he was unable to focus on anything but chasing another ring. I’m happy for the guy. I do think that if he’d stayed, the Cs really might have beaten the Heat that year (in my mind, they beat them the previous year as well and Game 2 was stolen even if they did suck ass the final 2 games).
  
  I’m a little bit mad at the guy, but he made the right choice for himself.

    Didn’t help that Rondo went down the following year though. A lot of factors could have helped extend The Big 3 era like beating L.A. in 2010 and OKC in 2012, Ray wouldn’t have been ring chasing like he was and his relationship with Rondo (which was overblown) would have been better. Drafting better and not always dangling Ray in trade rumours would have helped too.

Ray, and Doc, deserted the Cs. That doesn’t get rewarded. Rays number goes up right after Darren Daye and Dirk Minniefield.
