Report: Cavs really like Avery Bradley

Our friends at Real GM have transcribed some commentary by Brian Windhorst:

“The Celtics is the trade that has made sense for six months,” said Brian Windhorst. “I happen to know the Cavs really like Avery Bradley and to me, I would want Marcus Smart and I would want one of the draft picks. You’re not getting the high pick obviously, but you want one a draft pick.”

Windhorst also talked about how the pressure has been removed by winning a title and they can afford to wait to let the trade market come to them on Love.

Avery Bradley and the 16th pick for Kevin Love? I’m down. I’d even through in another late 1st round pick.

I still think Cleveland moves Love this off-season. Title or not, they’re not getting anything near consistent play from a $20 million player. He just doesn’t fit the system.

The statement sounds more like: AB, Smart AND #16 for Love. Hell no. AB + #16, then yes. But, we would still need to replace AB’s offensive somehow. We struggled putting up points in the playoffs without his scoring.

I’d move Smart before AB, but that’s just me. You guys all have to admit you’ve forgotten about all the games these last two seasons you screamed at your TV when Smart threw up an incredibly dumb shot. The boy’s a pit bull, but IMO his name couldn’t be more comical.

Let the market come to them? AB is an all defense first teamer- his value has never been higher and i think they want him more than we would want Love. I would offer them the 16th pick and maybe the 23rd but nothing more.

The thought of AB climbing into Curry’s jersey and giving him defensive hell for 48 minutes all to LeBron’s benefit grosses me out to the point that I can’t be reasonable about this. Of course the Cavs are all about Bradley– any team that needs to be concerned about the Warriors would be.

I don’t want Love’s game and his big contract in Boston especially for Bradley who fits perfectly in Stevens’ D-first system

  Agreed! Especially when you figure in the big contract. Even ignoring the stats and money, just watching the game in general who do ya like? AB right…? A tenacious pit bull that leaves it out on the floor. Look at the impact he had by not playing in the playoffs vs Love playing. Switch that around and we beat Atlanta vs nothing changes for Cavs without Love in the finals.Now factor in the contracts…..I like whar Rick Rice said also….Who doesn’t!!

    Yeah. You can say the level of talent on the Cs roster is overall not enough but AB not playing vs Atlanta showed how important he is for the team on both ends of the floor.

Not at this stage of Love`s career would I trade Bradley for him.

However, “some combination” of Smart-Sullinger-16-23 would be fine!

  Comparing AB and Love based on data from Basketball Reference:
  
  Shooting % is about the same.
  Assists are about the same.
  Blocks are about the same.
  Defensive Rating is about the same.
  
  AB gets 2x as many steals.
  AB has slightly fewer Turnovers.
  
  Love takes 3x as many free throws.
  Love pulls 3x as many Rebounds.
  Love scores +5 per 36 minutes.
  Loves has a 17% greater offensive rating.
  
  Based on the data, I’d take Love in a heartbeat.

    I don`t trust Love`s health and durability enough to trade Bradley.
    
    There`s a lot of mileage on Love. He might be 27, but appears more like 32.
    We`re never again gonna see the Kevin Love that the Minnesota T-Wolves got to enjoy.

      Can’t argue with that. AB has missed significant time too though. Games per year, Love actually has a 2-game edge on AB…that’s probably mostly due to Ray Allen being here.

      If you like the PER stat, KLove is at 22 while AB is just under 12, in the regular season. In the playoffs, KLove is at 18.2 while AB is at 7.6.

        Unlike MLB–where you have “a game within a game” in that a pitcher is always battling a hitter man to man–the NBA is far more fluid/free flowing where mismatches occur routinely.
        
        I think we can agree that comparing the raw stats of a 6`2″ guard and a 6`”10″ PF is close to meaningless. AB and Love are not asked to perform the exact same job.
        
        You would not try comparing the raw stats of Prince Fielder to Cole Hamels.
        
        As for the playoff stats, Love`s teams are 20-5 in his entire playoff career. His numbers will always look better when playing on teams that always {2 years} reach the Finals.
        
        Love is playing alongside of LBJ, Irving, Thompson.
        
        AB has been playing alongside of Jared Sullinger, Olynyk, Bass, a washed up KG.
        AB has never played on a team that had even a remote chance of winning a championship.
        
        Ty Lue is the head coach of the world champs, with just 1/2 of head coaching experience. Does that make Lue a better head coach than Brad Stevens?
        
        Bottom line : It matters greatly who you “go to war” with.

        Totally agree with you. It seems that maybe it’s worth considering the statistical difference between the two players while considering with whom you’d be replacing AB.
        
        Knowing the offensive add of a properly-used KLove is important when considering that AB would be replaced by XX.
        
        I’d support that trade of we were replacing AB with _______.

        Have the Rangers lost a game since Odor clocked Joey Batts? Which was inevitable after the bat-flip HR in that crazy Game 5, 7th inning last Oct.
        
        Rangers seem to win no matter what their roster looks like.
        
        Gone are the days when they scored a ton of runs {Josh, Ian, Nelson, Young, Pudge, Juan-Gon, Rusty G, Will C, Dean P}, yet it doesn`t matter.
        
        They always seem to win the AL West!

AB, 16th, 23rd, JJ and Young for Love. 3rd pick and Amir for Middleton. Sign a shot blocker, let’s say Ezeli. Start Thomas, Middleton, Crowder, Love and Ezeli. Bench of Rozier, Smart, Hunter, Olynyk and Micky. I don’t like giving up Bradly but the team we have now will not win a title and just drafting Bender and who ever else won’t even push us past 50 wins.

  The team you`ll have with Love Ezeli and Middleton won`t win a title either . I wouldn`t trade Bradley straight up for Love nor the third pick for Middleton.

AB and 16 for Love works with me provided we already have a deal in place for Butler that does not include Smart or Crowder.

No thanks. AB will be a more valuable piece to a title run than Kevin Love on this team. He’s gonna be a regular on the all-NBA 1st team defense and will eventually get a DPOY or 2. Love will be a 16/9 guy who gives up 25/10 on the other end.

I don’t want K Love anymore. Period. End of story. He had his chance a couple years ago, didn’t want it and I’m glad he didn’t come. He’s inconsistent at best, with the Cavs and that’s playing with Lebron James, (as much as I can’t stand him) James is one hell of a play-maker for others. Love gets hurt easily. Love cannot play the type of defense our Celtics pride themselves on. He’s not that young. He’s not going to get any better. If he were “the man” on a not so good team, he’d still put up 23-12 probably but they’d still be a crappy team. I just don’t see the fit at all anymore. Let’s nab Horford, MAYBE CONSIDER a trade for Butler. Durant would have to follow. PG:Thomas/Smart SG: Butler/Smart, SF: Durant,Crowder PF:Crowder/Horford C:Horford/Olynyk +Jared Dudley for kicks. Potential cham contenders for the next 3-4 years.

  But I love AB man, I’d hate to give him up. He’s our last real connection to the Big Three glory days, and has improved every season. Sometimes loyalty pays off. Look at Golden State and how they built from the ground up. IDK!!!!!! I HATE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!! JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND WAKE ME UP WHEN THE MOVES ARE DONE!!!!
