A puzzling Celtics/Lakers trade scenario floated by ESPN

Randle

ESPN’s Chad Ford is floating “5 game-changing NBA draft trades we’d like to see” and one of the scenarios involves the Celtics and rival Lakers:

Lakers send: D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle to Boston

Celtics send: Picks Nos. 3 and 16 along with Jonas Jerebko, R.J. Hunter and Jordan Mickey to Los Angeles

Why the Celtics do it: The Celtics would essentially get two picks for the price of one. Russell can do many of the things Evan Turner did for Boston last year, but for less money with far more upside. Randle is an athletic, versatile 4 — another need on Boston’s list.

It’s clear the Celtics would prefer to package these picks along with other players on their roster for a veteran superstar. But that trade might not be available

This would give the Celtics two players who are a little more ready to come in and contribute right now and grow with a team full of young veterans.

As Ford notes, this is not an actual report. And I’m glad for that.

I have yet to hear one tidbit of rumor/speculation/innuendo that shows the Celtics have interest in D’Angelo Russell being their point guard of the future. He certainly is talented – can shoot, distribute, play the pick-and-roll, and play both guard positions. But we also know he’s an idiot. If the C’s were to make this trade, they’d then have to move either Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart or Isaiah Thomas, along with Terry Rozier.

As for Randle, he may be an athletic, versatile 4 but he cannot shoot. Isn’t he a quicker version of Jared Sullinger with a worse shot? Is that really a need??

I’ll pass on this game-changing trade.

That trade scenario is just plain awful….smoke another one Mr. Ford.

The only assets the Celtics have that other teams want are the BKLN picks.
Nobody is dying to acquire any of the players we currently have. Who can blame them?

Unless we`re getting an outstanding player in his early-to-mid prime, which is highly unlikely….trading any of the BKLN picks would be a monumental mistake.

    Whatever Chad, you knob.

Chad obviously has too much time on his hands! I was expecting to read about a trade where Boston gets the number 2 pick from LA. Now that would be a trade worth doing!

Every trade he mentioned in the article was idiotic and one sided. Ford would be the worst GM in the league

This article should be in the entertainment section! I wish someone would come up with the perfect trade with Sacramento where Boston gets Cousins. I also would like them to package their last three picks for a late first rounder to a team that needs more picks. (Charlotte?) Murray would be my pick at #3 if they keep it. He has more upside and is younger than Heild. There are a few interesting big guys later in the draft. Hope they don’t pick Bender. Maker will be available later in the draft.
