Whispers getting louder that the Celtics are willing to surrender prized guard Marcus Smart if it gets them in upper reaches of lottery

The rumors keep on coming, so this is a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” moment.

There is no single player or asset that is untouchable on the Celtics. Marcus Smart has moved into the front-runner position as most-tradeable player (maybe he can text Rajon Rondo for some advice) and depending on the slot that’s available in a trade, Smart could be gone.

This goes back to the end of the season where many people said we’re just a couple of tweaks away from contention. Danny Ainge clearly disagrees, seeing the playoff run as a fluke combination of pieces that clicked and a horrific Eastern Conference. To truly contend, the Celtics are willing to do anything and everything to improve the talent on this roster.

Buckle up… we’re still four and a half hours away from the draft.

tbh theres really no reason for Cs to trade up in the draft unless its to get more valuable assets for trading.

If lakers pick Russel, we may have a chance to take 3rd for Smart since theres no point in Philly taking okafor. We can still trade up to 4th using the 9th (ifsully trade is true) since knicks are wanting to trade down but still in the top 10.

  Wouldn’t gaining a better player be a more valuable asset? We shouldn’t sell the farm for the 9th pick, but if we can trade a couple role players and a 2nd to move up 5 spots you have to do it. Too many role players on this team not enough top end talent.

      That depends on how good a player you think Smart is going to be but I tend to agree.

  Saw a report that Sully stopped following the Celtics on Twitter and is following Charlotte, this could be true.

      Ya people want followers and to be credible so they make a twitter page and make up rumors. I’ve seen numerous random people saying their “sources” told them Sully for #9 is a guarantee. I hope it does happen but until someone credible says it, grain of salt.

Who ever thought we we’re merely a “few” moves away from contention smokes crack.

I’d move Smart for an upgrade any day of the week, i’m just not doing it to move up for an unknown commodity in the middle of the lottery. I’m probably only trading Smart for Towns, not for the 6th pick.

Hopefully Danny can add Mudiay to our Smart/AB/IT backcourt or WCS to our front line.
