Hey everyone,

Just out of curiosity…are we purposely avoiding the rondo topic? There’s been a lot of news here around the league, but I’ve noticed a certain silence on rondo.

Just so that everyone is up to date:

He’s killing the tempo for the Mavs the way he did in Boston.

He’s gotten into a shouting match with his head coach, a well respected head coach, because he looked him off while the coach was calling a play.

He has since been suspended for actions detrimental to the team.

And just in case people who are and always will be blinded by rondos flashy style of play and impressive statistics, you’re even looking bad on that now:
He’s averaging 8,4, and 6 since joining the Mavs. That’s….a little less than I would anticipate from a “top 5 point guard” or even top 10.

Curious to see the excuses at this point. Are we still on the knee excuses? The new team thing? Is it lack of shooters around him? Lack of talent? Too much talent?

Well, when he was on his old team, he was still bad. His knee injury can no longer be used as an excuse. Many guys have come back from the same injury and been far better even since then. They have great shooters on Dallas. They have a good big guy. They have a prolific scorer, or even 2. Is it too much talent so he’s over shadowed? No, because he wasn’t good before he was traded either.

I think it is getting to be time guys. I think it’s gettin to be time to admit that the love for him was because he did some flashy things with the ball, and that he was a “triple double machine”, but as many people have argued the entire time, why does that even matter? Those things can’t make him an overall positive to a team, especially when he’s fighting with coaches. And please don’t come back with the “coach Carlisle says that happens all of the time with everyone”, because A) Rondo isn’t Kobe Bryant or Lebron James, so he’s not allowed to do that, and B) this reputation has been with him since year 1.

He happened to play with 3 hall of famers that made him look pretty damn good. He was good before anyone expected anything from him and when he was playing in a perfect situation.

    This idiot’s been trying to start s**t all year long concerning Rondo. All I can figure is Rondo must of nailed his sister or something! One more thing genius (@JakeGoober) last time I checked Rondo had a Championship ring. Yeah, they just give those away to guards who cant play!

      I couldn’t care less how he played if it weren’t for people so ridiculously claiming he was a top 5 PG.

        Rondo is my favorite player in the NBA (would be KG, but KG is on his way out). Rondo is no longer a top 10 PG in the league. He is playing terrible. Isaiah Thomas is more valuable. I agree with all that. I LIVE in Dallas, and I still don’t care to go catch a Mavs game.
        
        I’ve said it before, and I say it now. I have never been a huge fan of Paul Pierce’s game…until the playoffs.
        
        I’m very disappointed in Rondo, but when the playoffs come around maybe we’ll see what we’ve been missing.

        You are literally the only sensical Rondo fan I have ever interacted with. I have much, much respect for you. That’s all I was looking for. It’s perfectly fine to be a fan of Rondo! It was just driving me nuts when people were denying what was right in front of them, just because they liked watching his game!

        And frankly, Tanguay can say whatever his little heart desires. I have so little respect for that man it is like an annoying mosquito buzzing in my ear.
        
        That is one of the least knowledgeable human beings I’ve ever seen on TV re: the celtics. In fact, him being a “rondo-hater” almost makes me want to join your side just so that I’m not on his side.

      Furthermore, he did help that team that year. I’ll agree to that, and I’m thankful he did. However, if you go back and watch those playoff games when they won, he was also killing them in a lot of ways. Hard to say what his overall effect that year was, whether they could have still done it or done it easier with a different PG. All I know is, Rondo has proven that he is not a top 5 or even top 10 pg since then. Watching the games, his teams records, his antics, and now EVEN HIS STATS (I’m not an advocate of using stats to define a player, but many, many people continue to argue that rondos triple doubles proved that he was someone the celtics should keep around).
      
      I’ve said it ever since everyone started to overhype his reputation. Many people have said it, actually. We cannot let stats and flashy play define who the greats are. That is just not the way it works when you’re trying to find a cornerstone on your franchise.
