Your Morning Dump… Where there’s renewed speculation about Boston and Boogie

Chuck - Red's Army February 17, 2015 Rumors, The Morning Dump 22 Comments

BoogieCousins

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The Jazz’ young big man has been losing playing time to Rudy Gobert, who’ll come much cheaper. Kanter is a free agent and the Jazz has locked up Gordon Hayward, Alec Burks and Derrick Favors. He said he’d like to be traded. The Celtics have been most rumored chasing big men and the Bucks are said to be interested as well. Another Celtics’ big man rumor floating around during All-Star weekend has been their pursuit of All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. There is no indication he’s available from the team, but the speculation has been he and George Karl won’t work together and Karl wants to play faster without a low post center. So Boston is rumored to give it a try. Hey, who thought they would get Kevin Garnett? The Kings have been offering Jason Thompson around for most of the last two seasons and rarely used rookie Nik Stauskas. But that could change with Karl.

NBA.com – Sam Smith

Sam Smith generated rumors generally fall on the lower end of my “likely to happen” scale, but it’s trade deadline week so nothing is off limits, especially a rumor involved the enigmatic and talented DeMarcus Cousins.

I can’t imagine the Kings would trade their franchise player days after committing to George Karl. Wouldn’t Karl want a crack at Cousins before dumping him?

The Herald’s Steve Bulpett considers the Celtics longshots to trade for Denvers’ Ty Lawson (yesterday’s name du jour) or the grumpy Enes Kanter in Utah. Bulpett reminds us that there could be a big benefit even if the Celtics play a lesser role in deals:

There are a number of reasons why this role of basketball midwife could be advantageous for the Celts, but it may be best to explain by boiling it down to two words.

Tony Allen.

Back in 2004, the C’s stepped in and helped the Pistons get Rasheed Wallace from Atlanta. That maneuver was critical for Detroit, which went on to win that season’s NBA championship. (We’re still not sure whether Danny Ainge ever got a ring — but he should have.)

And it’s not like the Celtics came away empty-handed for their kindness. They were given a first-round pick for their trouble, and that pick wound up being Tony Allen, who helped the C’s to the 2008 championship before being let go (too soon) as a free agent in 2010.

Who can forget the Chucky Atkins era in Boston? Hunter never played a game in green, he was waived and later re-signed by Detroit.

But you see the point – Patience.

Watch the Celts pull off some blockbusters and win the whole damn thing.

idk why DMC is involved and i dont think he will be traded here or even traded at all but damn i would LOVE to see him in Boston…

  • CFH

DMC is the kind of basketball player who would remember a reporter claiming he’d be in prison in five years and five years later point out that the guy was wrong.

George Karl, while an excellent coach, is the kind of coach who generally publicly trashes his stars after he’s through with them– see Carmelo Anthony and Ray Allen. And remember that a huge chunk of Paul Pierce’s lingering reputation as immature, not a leader, not fit for international play came from George Karl.

If DMC says “I really really don’t want to play for that guy…”

    Maybe?

    Probably not.

  • KGino

Boston media would rip DMC apart, other than that I’m all for it

I’d be 100% behind this trade. Best I’ve heard all year. That’s what makes me skeptical of this ever happening. But if we could acquire Boogie, that’d be one hell of a pick up! Maybe one of the few guys out there that I’d consider giving up Sully (my favorite celtic currently) for. Nevermind the “attitude” which hasn’t been a problem for some time for him besides the occasional technical foul, he’s a BEAST in the paint and would complement our “read and react” system well.

    It`s official!

Brian Williams of NBC is reporting that the Celts will acquire DMC, then sign Larry Sanders next week after the Bucks buy-out his contract.

You think Larry Sanders is decent at the Center Position? I don’t know much about him other than his drug stuff and the dreaded P word.

      • RedsLoveChild

Ideal as PF…very athletic 6`11″…but, desperately needs an NBA mentor to guide and inspire him.

        P word??

        • adam

          Potential

      • Curt Hays

I agree with @jerrysondler:disqus. Larry Sanders is a very athletic guy. And not athletic like Fab Melo. The guy has skill AND power.

        • adam

Didn’t he just get bought out? He was playing Center in Milw… for the Bucks right?

          • Curt Hays

            Yes. The pot head guy.

          • adam

Pot? that’s it? pffft. sign this guy Danny!

          • Curt Hays

The problem is that the LEAGUE suspends him for it. And besides that, don’t we want a guy who takes HgH anyway? Like LeBron James.

          • adam

            Lmao genius.

          • RedsLoveChild

            P word = Pot?

Larry likes to unwind after games with pot…another Larry{Bird} preferred beer.

The only real difference is the league doesn`t test/suspend for booze.

Part of me is really intrigued that the Celtics could get this Clown. The other part of me doesn’t want to touch ti with a ten foot pole. I don’t see why Karl wouldn’t want him. Karl is a smart coach.
