Rajon Rondo’s Foul on Landry Fields from Game 3 Upgraded to Flagrant 1

Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe has reported that Rajon Rondo's fourth quarter foul in transition on Landry Fields has been up graded to a Flagrant 1. Washburn's tweet details how the flagrant points accumulate in the playoffs:

Where was this in Game 1 of the Bulls/Pacers series? Boozer checked Tyler Hansborough in the back on his breakaway in the 4th quarter (putting Indy up 10 with 2 minutes to go).

Having no idea what the wording of the rule is, that looks like a severe punishment. Even if it is a foul by the rule, it actually seemed like a different foul would have been more dangerous.
It almost looks like Rondo is trying to avoid the rule where the player has a clear lane to the rim.

How many times in the series did Rondo or Pierce get contact after they had left their feet on a lay-up attempt. No flagarant’s there, but this bump needs to be reviewed two games later? WTF?

I think you’re probably right. Miami knows that they have NO answer for Rondo whatsoever so I can see Riley pushing for this to be upgraded to a Flagrant 1.

What about the foul last night from Kobe on Okafor? He straight hit him right over his face with a swing of the forarm and didnt even get a tech? That played should be reviewed as well.
Okafor was a fool for not going at kobe and creating a stir about it becuase if he did the refs would have looked at it and gave kobe a tech and maybe even be getting a suspension or flagrant 1 for sure.
The league should take a look and upgrade it to flagrant IMO.
Just because you act like you didn’t mean to doesn’t mean you are off the hook.

Flagrant???? Really!!! Stern needs to be addressing the lack of consistency of calls between Refs in the NBA which can mean an unfair loss or win.

There are two types of Flagrant Fouls, as follows:
Flagrant “1” (FFP1) – unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent. The opposing team is awarded two (2) free throws and possession.
Flagrant “2” (FFP2) – unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent. The opposing team is awarded two (2) free throws and possession and the player committing the foul is automatically ejected.
Pretty fuzzy rule, open to a lot of interpretation by the refs, it seems to me.

Right on, thanks. I would have been less surprised had they called it on the spot. To review it after the fact and then assess the flagrant is ridiculous. Given Tommy is a homer but I agree that Rondo used the necessary amount of contact to prevent the basket, maybe not Tommy’s ‘just enough’ but certainly not an ‘unnecessary’ amount.

Agreed….quite suspicious reviewing this foul. Would not be surprised the douche Pat Riley had something to do with it.
In my opinion…Rondo’s push was about as soft a push that could be made.

Waiting this long to review this is ridiculous. Something is definately fishy. Why? I reviewed and call a flagarant on the league!
