The fact that Glen Davis is using mixed martial arts as a way to stay in shape is nothing really new... but he's talking about it in the Herald.
“I kind of felt like, ‘Oh man, basketball is hard,’ but when you’re training for a fight, you have to go to a whole different level,” Davis said. “The training is so extreme. I thought I trained hard playing basketball, but when you’re doing mixed martial arts, you have to train even harder.”
And it's paying off exactly as he'd hoped.
There's a quote from Doc in that piece that I completely agree with. I'm all for guys doing non-basketball things to get in better shape. Things like MMA teach you different things about your body. It's very useful. It'll help him move a little better... maybe a little quicker. I like this approach.
Another
plus... if anyone wants to get into his face, he can drop them in .5
seconds and apply a rear naked choke before the refs can do anything
about it. I just want guys like Jason Maxiell to keep that in mind.
