Rose is out tonight, KG is in

The word comes from Sean Grande, meaning there still won't be a Derrick Rose/Rajon Rondo matchup.

KG's return was expect, since he was scratched at the last minute last night.  Maybe these guys can wake up tonight.

KG upgraded, Pietrus sounds optimistic for tonight

So after a bevy of disheartening injury news yesterday, there seems to be better news today on the C's injury front. 

• Kevin Garnett (hip flexor) did participate in shoot around and is being called "probable" for tonight. 
• Mickael Pietrus (right knee) said he's definitely playing tonight, but what he says and what Doc Rivers says might be a different story.  I'm thinking both these guys are game-time decisions.  
• Jermaine O'Neal (shoulder, everything else) made it through shoot-around in one piece, so he's probably a go for tonight. 

Brandon Bass was the only player not in shootaround.  He'll be out for another week, at least. 

Personally, I'm in favor of sitting KG.  Let JaJuan Johnson get the start.  I don't want to risk anything at all... especially against the Pistons.

KG, Pietrus doubtful tomorrow

I remember them saying KG was grabbing at his hip during the Bulls game, and it turns out that he's having some problem with his hip flexor.  So KG's doubtful for tomorrow.  

Mickael Pietrus is having a knee issue.  I'm not sure what that's about.  Keyon Dooling's problem is that he's made of the same material Jermaine O'Neal is made of. 

Luckily, the Celtics are facing the Pistons, and there's some debate right now whether the Kentucky Wildcats could give them a run for their money.  But still, considering how fresh that Friday night shit storm is in our minds... I don't want to take anything for granted.

Ummmm... ok. No clue why the Celtics do this now.  KG and Rondo must have a "thing" together when it comes to this.  I suppose it's fine so long as KG doesn't blow the snap and send it into the other team's basket.  God help us all if something bad happens off this little move. 

Enemy Chatter: KG was repeatedly allowed to miss shots

I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Los Angeles.

The Lakers survived because the Celtics couldn't take advantage of another weak offensive output. Ray Allen hit some shots early, and one big three late, but Paul Pierce could only manage 18 points on 18 shots, and Kevin Garnett was repeatedly allowed to miss shots from 20 feet to allow the Lakers to claw their way back into the game and eventually seal the victory. Garnett missed his last 10 shots and ended up 6-23 on the night. It's a victory the Lakers will be happy to take, but not one that provides any level of confidence that a bunch more victories are on the way.

Aside from a couple of rim rattling dunks in the 1st half, KG had a horrible night shooting the ball. Here's the quarterly breakdown:

1Q: 1-2      

2Q: 3-8      

3Q: 0-2  

4Q: 2-9  

I didn't think KG was forcing his shot. He rarely does. He just couldn't find the bottom of the net.

On Page 2, the Cs cannot compete with the Lakers big men.

Kevin Garnett is like Eastwood in Gran Torino

In a blogtable on NBA.com, our beloved Kevin Garnett was repeatedly tabbed as the league's orniest player:

Steve Aschburner: Normally I like to answer right up front and expound after, given these short-attention-span times. But … really? One graf to nominate and persuade on this loaded question? This could be a whole column. Or a series. Here’s the best I can do in the space allowed: The orneriest player in the NBA is Kevin Garnett, case closed.

Shaun Powell: Kevin Garnett came into the league as a young, eager, somewhat innocent and effervescent teenager – Da Kid, if you recall — and will leave as the Clint Eastwood character in Gran Torino. As if his body language and facial contortions don’t scream “Git off my court” enough, he too often throws a verbal punch below the belt (Charlie Villanueva, etc.).

John Schuhmann: Kevin Garnett is definitely the orneriest player in the league, and probably sets the most illegal screens of anybody.

The Gran Torino analogy is perfect. Check out the famous "Get off my lawn" clip.

Not surprisingly, Reggie Evans got the most votes for dirtiest player. Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum and Dwight Howard were also mentioned.
