Your Morning Dump... Shaq takes his grudges to TV

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

During NBA TV's show Tuesday to announce the league's schedule for the 2011-12 season - one jeopardized by a lockout - O'Neal referred to the Heat as having a "Big 2." Since Bosh, Wade and James teamed up in Miami, they've been called the "Big 3" in many circles. "The Miami Heat, they've got a lot of great players, the `Big 2.' They will be back," O'Neal said from Louisiana during the broadcast, when discussing the NBA finals and how Dallas was able to beat Miami for the title. "LeBron James is taking a lot of criticism, but I know LeBron very well. He hears everything that everyone is saying, so I think he's going to come back and have an MVP year this year."

After the discussion turned to O'Neal's health and his decision to retire, the talk was steered back to his "Big 2" comment.

O'Neal laughed off the notion that a controversy was already getting started.

"Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, you know, they're great players, they're probably the greatest backcourt ever assembled," O'Neal said. "And you know, they're going to get back. They're going to get back. They play well, they went through a lot, they put a lot of pressure on themselves. That's how they like it. And they will be back."

This is exactly why TNT and NBA TV hired Shaq. He's not the most articulate guy and he won't dazzle us with analysis of defending the high pick-and-roll, but he will take shots at players.

Shaq has a history of blasting Chris Bosh. He called Bosh the "Rupaul of big men" two years ago. And after signing with the Celtics, he said the Heat "have a great 1-2."

I'm not a fan of Bosh, but if any Heat player deserves a slight following the NBA Finals, it's Lebron James. Shaq wouldn't go there, because he and James are buddies.

If Shaq is going to sling arrows, he can't play favorites.

GreenLight Madness: Celtics Top 64 Plays: Round 3 (#5 Seed vs #12 Seed)

The 2011 post-season for the Celtics was short-lived due to a handful of unfortunate circumstances.  One of them is when Rajon Rondo was taken down by Dwyane Wade and thus dislocated his left elbow.  The first play in today's matchup displays the heart and toughness of one of the smallest players on the court, determined to help lead the green to victory.  Going against that is a spectacularly surprising baseline slam by Ray Allen.

Seed #5: Rondo Steals and Dunks After Elbow Injury - After getting taken down by Dwyane Wade and having his arm removed from normal musculoskeletal structure, Rajon Rondo returned and led the Celtics to their only victory against the Heat. This play he steals the ball with his injured arm, then sort of slams it home. Again, given the circumstances it was an inspiring and amazing play. Unfortunately it was also a huge factor in the C's downfall.

 

GreenLight Madness: Celtics Top 64 Plays: Round 2 (#12 Seed vs #21 Seed)

Unfortunately for the Celtics and their legion of fans, the 2011 playoff run was far too short.  It did however have some memorable plays, including some that surprised us all.  We all keep hearing how imperative it is that the Celtics must get younger and more athletic in the off-season.  While that is true over the long haul, it's fascinating to see Paul Pierce and Ray Allen pull off the types of plays that are highlighted in today's matchup.  For a couple of "old" guys, some of the things they did this season were truly remarkable.

Seed #12: Ray Posterizes Bosh - Ray makes a post entry pass to KG who is being defended by Joel Anthony. As Ray passes, he cuts baseline and KG hands it off to him and simultaneously screens his man, Dwyane Wade. Chris Bosh recognizes this a bit too late and surprisingly gets posterized by Ray.

GreenLight Madness: Celtics Top 64 Plays (#12 Seed vs #53 Seed)

Yesterday's matchup both involved the play of Delonte West.  We can all see his importance to this team when he's at least relatively healthy, as it's obvious that he can make plays.  The self-proclaimed jack of all trades has been known for some flashy plays sprinkled in here and there as well.  Delonte is featured as the lower seed in today's matchup, but not with a dunk.

One of Ray Allen's signature dunks this year, is however the higher seed.  During Game 4 against Miami, Ray came out of nowhere to posterize Chris Bosh.  Late during the regular season visit to Atlanta, Delonte hosted an impromptu block party, but this was not a block party that you wanted to be invited to if you were a Hawk.

KG's Monster Performance

After dropping both Games 1 and 2 in Miami, Kevin Garnett knew the deal heading into Game 3 at the Garden.  KG had two lackluster performances in Miami but did what champions do: responded with a monster game.  Turning back the clock past 2008 and all the way to his MVP season in 2004, KG ripped apart Miami for 28 points and 18 rebounds.

He was hyper-active (if that's even possible), drilling all sorts of shots from everywhere,  His trademark mid-range jumper, jump-hooks in the paint, fade-aways, he did it all.  Watch the compilation below for his complete ownage of Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat defense.  Simply beautiful.

 

Chris Bosh admits he's mentally weak

Chris Bosh is a mess.  To call his psyche fragile would be a gross understatement.  And he's not very bright either.  Because not only did he get intimidated by the Garden crowd and atmosphere Saturday night... he admitted it.

When the Miami Heat came on the floor 15 minutes before Game 3's tipoff Saturday night the arena was darkened and the seats at TD Garden were full. On the videoboard above, the Boston Celtics were shown outside their locker room jumping up and down as the theme from Rocky pulsed from the loud speakers.

It was intimidating and that was before anyone had even broken a sweat. Most arenas are rowdy in the playoffs and in Boston it's tradition.

The intensity of that atmosphere got to Chris Bosh, something he admitted when looking back on his first road game in the second round. Bosh said nerves were a major factor in perhaps his worst game of the season, a six-point, five-rebound effort in 30 minutes in the Heat's 97-81 blowout loss.

"Given all the elements that were out there last night ... they were so hyped," Bosh said. "My emotions got the best of me early on and it kind of dictated what I was doing for the rest of the game."

Do you hear that Garden crowd for tonight's game?  Chris Bosh is easily intimidated by you.  Perhaps we should make him feel better by lining up along the baseline, giving him a hug, and saying "it's not your fault.... it's not your fault....."

OR... 

We could light him the F--- up like and show him what happens when you actually TRY to intimidate someone.

Rondo the 1-armed bandit treats Bosh like a Bosh

Poor Chris Bosh.  He gutted his way through a tough playoff game with a slight crick in his neck... and no one wants to talk about it.  All they want to talk about is how Rajon Rondo almost broke his arm, came back to play with one arm, then used the bad arm to make Bosh look foolish by stealing the ball from him and then going in for the wide open dunk. 

Where are your priorities people?

Is there already bickering between Bosh and his teammates?

Chris Bosh didn't do much offensively in Game 1 but he did grab 12 boards.  Still, I don't think people would look at Bosh's performance and say he played particularly well.  LeBron included

Later in his quote about Garnett, LeBron said, “He’s a great player, we don’t expect to hold him under his average all series. We don’t expect him to have another game like he had last night, but we don’t expect (Chris Bosh) to have a [game] like he did last night also.”

It was an understandable knock on his teammate, who scored only seven points on 3-10 shooting in 37 minutes. But when asked to respond, Bosh wasn’t too concerned with his performance. 

“I think I did a good job,” Bosh said. “For one, we won the game, and I rebounded the ball. I didn’t make that many mistakes on defense, either. On offense, I’m not really worried about that. I know I can make shots. I’m glad I made mistakes in the first game because that means a I have a lot of room for improvement.”

I'd normally blow this off, but they've taken little digs at Bosh before.  And I know Bosh is sensitive.  So 99% of me tells me there's nothing more to it... 

... but 1% of me is still going to watch to see if Bosh forces things tonight.
